I can sympathize totally whathappened. The UN was the knockout blow to my faith. I felt so betrayed, like everything was dark and falling apart. Never felt that way before or since.

Londo111 nailed it. Even without VAT 4956 there is a mountain of evidence establishing the Neo-Babylonian chronology. It is one of the most well understood periods of history in regard to rulerships and other chronological details.
Religious zealots think archeologists are out to disprove the bible, that they have a preconceived notion and only present evidence that supports their prefabricated viewpoint. The irony of this is that is exactly how the religious mind works. Scientists examine the existing evidence and draw their conclusions from that, not the other way around.
The most damning piece of evidence for 607 is the fact that when the B.S. found out that there was no zero year between BC and AD, they moved the date for Jerusalem's destruction back a year instead of changing 1914.
how many here are (a) ex-jw, (b) non-jw with jw relatives or spouses, (c) inactive jw, or (d) active jw who stay in for your own reasons?.
I'm both a) and c) because I'm technically inactive but I'm never going back and consider myself an ex-JW.

this is not the first time it has happened but it really took off this morning.. one sister says, "i was watching family guy with kids and the dog took home a human to have sex with.

from what i can see its pretty cool stuff.
seems to tie in a lot of social ideas about religions and prayer and interaction with a spirit realm.
I think it's a fascinating idea with little evidence to support it. What exists is easier explained using more conventional means.
after being out of the borg for a year and a half, weve dealt with a lot of nonsense from local elders stopping by unannounced, well-meaning do-gooders trying to encourage us.
somehow weve managed to get through this without getting dfd/dad.
for me the worst part of it all has been that much of my family has shunned me, and stopped talking to me, as soon as they heard through the grapevine that i wasnt going to meetings.
I treat them the way they treat me. I still have contact with my family, but most of my friends won't speak to me at all. When I see them I go out of my way to be friendly to them, if nothing else to show that I'm better than their shunning. But for some that go out of their way to shun me, I feel nothing for, maybe even contempt.
In short yes I am losing I am losing my fondness for them.

No not really. My non-JW family always gave us a wide berth, so I don't really know who they are.

i was born into the jw and served for 21 years.
It is definitely sad and even infuriating but in a way it gave me the motivation to get out and start living for myself. In a way it was beneficial, just not the way the JW intended it.
